mad men yourself: draper style.

earlier this week it it was an ode to hbo's "girls," but today we're showing some old fashioned love to another favorite that's ramping up again: amc's "mad men." season six starts on april 7, and if you can't wait for the show and its mod 60s fashions like us, check out the tv show's app, "mad men yourself."

i went all megan draper "movie star style," adding a fur shrug and lots of accessories, of course...and they even had my new hair color! i was disappointed in that they didn't have any caricatures of outfits like the fabulous dress she's wearing in the season six preview photos though, or the longer hairstyles of the late 60s/early 70s.

my guy and i had fun making the mad men version of him too. and it looks weirdly a lot like him...except that apparently the 60s version of alex wears nicer, non-black clothing. and the 2013 alex would never be caught dead in those shoes.

and yes, this might be what i wear to work at sterling cooper draper price...maybe the martini too.

still out of place, this scene is at least a little more fitting.

this app is getting both of us in the mood for tomorrow, when we'll both be working a student film awards show that has a "retro" theme. i'm still planning what to wear, but taking from the app, as well as through costume designer janie bryant's "mad men" style videos. if it turns out well, you may be reading more about "mad men" tomorrow...

a's back and so are the cool clothes.

i think my fan status should be demoted since it took me a whole day to catch up on the season 3 premiere of "pretty little liars," but i don't think it was a big error on my part since i have to say the first episode from my dvr tonight was mildly disappointing. a's back...shocker. that being said., the cast wardrobe was not one to disappoint and i, of course, will continue to tune in each week.

as usual, the costumes were on trend but eclectic. aria and hanna continued to pull off the best looks (minus the hair...both sported new 'dos and i'm not a fan, even though i typically love shorter hair), and i pulled out two pieces from the show that i've actually been eyeing to purchase myself.

not sure why she was sleeping in them and her lace-up combat boots other than that they made it easy to run to the cemetery, but aria's ikat denim skinny jeans by joes were the first to catch my eye...both on tv and at anthropologie at cityplace. printed denim is obviously hot, and ikat seems to be the new chevron, so this was a calculated move by pll's stylists.

next was hanna's brightly colored blazer, the natalia cropped jacket by bcbg max azria, which is marked down to $160 online right now. it's nothing new from the brand - i've been eagerly looking it over next to the other color-blocked patterns and pleats throughout the cityplace store for a couple months now, but the style team spiced it up by throwing it over a lace dress. i may have to pick one up and pair it with my new lace dress by rachel rachel roy.

what were your favorite looks?

'pretty little liars' trending in more ways than one.

aha! see, it's not just me (or my lovely past roommate who started my addiction). i just read on mashable that "pretty little liars" - which you may have recently read took the place of "gossip girl" in my heart - made twitter/tv history monday night. according to socialguide, 1.6 million tweets were sent by 667,000 users during the day leading up to the season 2 finale, with 50 something topics trending.

what do i want to see trending from the show? more of the cast's clothing. here are a few of my favorite looks from this season:

hannah's black blazer with white sleeves, paired with a sheer, hot pink bcbg maxi dress is at the top of my list. i really need to add this jacket to my wardrobe asap; i heard it's from h&m, which probably means it's long gone now. aria's pleated leather mini skirt from the same scene was one of my favorites too. i have a similar one in black from bcbg maxazria...too bad it's already in the upper 70s in florida so i won't get to wear it much longer!

aria's sheer slip-dress by pins and needles from urban outfitters. i just ordered a similar black skirt from brandy melville and can't wait to wear it!

spencer's to-die-for yellow dress from free people and "peter pan" collar necklace from bcbg.

aria's denim studded-sleeve dress.

aria's separate pieces were some of my favorites all through the season, but hannah's overall style is my favorite. spencer's clothes were certainly creeping up on me towards the end though, and emily always kept it casually cute with her baggy tees, leather jackets and boots. hopefully there's much more to come next season!

fashion line of the day #7

"i like my clothes like i like my women: options."
~ mike "the situation" from mtv's jersey shore

now you probably did not expect to read about the jersey shore in anything to do with good style, but this quote was too great to not pass on.

will you accept this dress...oops, i mean rose?

creative title, i know (remember the shoe edition?), but while watching the first episode of the bachelor monday night, i felt a little deja vu in more ways than one. i recognized the majority of the dresses the bachelorettes were wearing to meet jake from my own search for a gown to wear to the palm beach heart ball earlier in the day - especially the red ones.

you may have missed out on the chance to snag yourself a sexy pilot, but if you want to mimic one of the girls' looks, here are a few options. and red must be the color of love...every one of these girls received a rose...

rozlyn
this abs by allen schwartz "eva" gown has a sweetheart, scalloped neckline that certainly showed off rozlyn's top half. originally priced at $350, this modern-day mermaid gown is now only $175 at bloomingdale's.

valishia
the photo of this layered bcbg gown doesn't give it justice and it is much better in person on the hanger or on the person wearing it. it's also better if you're a little on the shorter side so it hits the floor. orginally $398, this dress is now $278.60 at bloomingdales, or 50 percent off at bcbg at cityplace.

elizabeth from nebraska
now i can't be certain, but it looked like elizabeth was wearing the nicole miller cross-back silk charmeuse gown, which is going for full price at $320 at macy*s right now. if not, then it was probably a halter that looks just like it! like rozlyn's this dress also puts the top half on a platter.

jessie
now what i want to know, is who makes jessie's dress. i thought it was a bit much at first (like her - the "guns" pickup line, really?!?), but as the show went on i came to like the saloon-ish red gown with black beading.

in the end, i didn't settle on any of the dresses worn on the show. i chose this red hot silk chiffon layered gown from bcbg. i risked it by purchasing it online without ever trying it on since bcbg sale items are final, but priced at $174 plus an extra 30 percent - down from the original $348 - i just couldn't resist! be sure to hurry into the bcbg store at cityplace too, i know my co-worker also made some good finds with a short red dress and lbd on sale for a few of her upcoming events.

p.s. after all that red, i'm still team ali. yellow was a good choice for her. so was the peacock feather :)

fashion line of the day #3

"i have to keep all the boys off this dress. this is my taser for the night, since they won't let me bring my taser into radio city. so i can just go 'boom, off!'"
~ katy perry talking to adrienne bailon about her outfit on the red carpet of the 2009 mtv vmas. see her full interview on mtv.com.

the "i kissed a girl" singer known for her outrageous fashion choices was looking hot in her glam makeup, spiked and shiny dress by the blonds, and shimmering shoes by none other than christian louboutin.

she says she wore the dress to keep away the boys, but i personally think it was to keep away one in particular, my friend andrew who lives in nyc and could be trying to seek her out :)

will you accept this shoe...oops, i mean rose?

besides blair waldorf, the bachelorette's jillian harris is probably the best dressed girl on tv. from her adbundance of scarves and flattering high-waisted skirts, to the hot pink maxi, black romper and super short, feathered lbd she wore last week, jillian always keeps her dates fashionable. but what do i look forward to each week besides hot and buff kiptyn now that jake's gone? her selection of shoes.

my obsession with her shoes set in during the second episode, when she stepped out in her fun yet sexy red boots for the line dancing date. the boots are aldo's "flosand" and originally only sold in canada until their popularity grew from show. they are a perfect option for summer boots and sold like crazy after their debut on the bachelorette. though most other sites are listing them as sold out, they can actually still be purchased on the web site with the aldo clearance code received in the aldo promotion e-mails: 5489548. when that style is finally sold out, here is another similar option, the farylrobin hydra boot at
endless.com.

maybe it's because i can't wear them much in florida, but i seem to gravitate towards jillian's boots more than her other styles. in addition to the red pair, i'm also a fan of the black fringe boots she wore in whistler and on other dates. though it's only july, you can get a pair of your own at
delia's to get a head-start for the fall and winter.

last week it was jillian's yellow patent leather shoes from the scooter date in spain that caught my eye (maybe because i'm still upset about missing my opportunity on the neon yellow louboutins severely on sale at saks couple weeks ago). i read on
seenon.com that these were jillian's two-year-old david dixons. you may not have your own kiptyn, but if you want your own yellow pumps, check out the very feminine miss sixty nabilah heels on overstock.com.

so i've decided that it's officially not fair. jillian gets hot guys and a wicked wardrobe. i wonder what shoes she'll break hearts in tonight...

this is american idol! (in seacrest voice of course)

so of course the excitement was all about the music on last night's finale of american idol, and i'm happy kris allen won since i voted for him about 65 times the night before, but during the season i cared more about the style choices than the music. look below for the scoop on last night's outfits - or should i say costumes - and be sure to check out my twitter page at http://twitter.com/pretaporterpb for future updates like this!

* ugh the guys look horrible in all white on AI. especially adam. allison doesn't look so hot in her weird pleather zip-up trench either.

* kara looks awesome in her cute lbd and updo though...

* lil rounds looks great! i think she's had one of the best makeovers throughout all the AI seasons.

* liking anoop's jacket and the green boat shoes but def not with the rest of the outfit. like jason mraz in that hat though.

* fergie's body looks great and i love her dress!

* oooo and love the crazy black and white geometric back-up dancers for the black-eyed peas!

* i hate the bikini girl and her awful spray tan that match's paula's.

* kara looks great in a bikini though!

* who does adam's mom think she is with those wrist protectors?!

* those are the creepiest shoulder pads i've ever seen. please please please lose adam lambert. kris is so much better at dressing himself.

* @InStyledotcom i vote for kris! he always looks comfortable yet classy, & adam's mix of tight beetlejuice pants & leather creeps me out!

* megan joy is so cute, but that dress does not go with her tattoo.

* nicole richie looks cute in the audience of american idol with her braids. joel madden does not look cute with his bleached hair.

miss usa or prom queen?

miss usa 2009 aired on nbc sunday night and if i were a judge, i would have crowned "my name is earl's" nadine velazquez. yes i know, she wasn't part of the competition, but as the co-host of the event, she blew away the contestants in the evening gown portion! her pearly mauve-colored strapless gown was stunning, and with its silver and gold embellishments isolated at the waist made her stand out among a sea of tacky and over-glittered dresses - a few of which belonged at a 1995 high school prom.

now i know this should come as no surprise as beauty pagents have never been known for their innate fashion sense, but nadine's gorgeous gown (shown above left) seemed to make the others more unbearable than usual.

two dresses i didn't mind so much actually belonged to the crowned winner, miss north carolina kristin dalton, and first-runner up, miss california carrie frejean, both shown below, so i guess the judges agree with me.

miss north carolina's color choice went well with her complexion and bright blonde hair, and she chose a simple, yet flowing design rather than something super sparkly that could have clashed with the color. miss california wore a design that was glitzier with its sequins, but the mermaid-shaped bottom lined in feathers was a daring choice i commend. it flattered her shape (mainly two things up top i suppose!) and in white it did not come across as overdone...if it was hot pink or neon yellow like miss utah's, that would be another story.

though the crowned miss usa does win quite a few amazing prizes in addition to her title, she unfortunatley wins a custom evening wear wardrobe by carlos alberto haute couture, the official designer of the evening gown portion of the competition, and a shoe wardrobe by nina footwear. as arguably the hottest woman in the u.s., shouldn't she be entitled to a year's worth of reem acra and jimmy choo instead of prom-like wear and bridesmaid shoes?!
