a bloody brilliant interview by russell brand.
a little beyond the normal fashion realm of this blog, we had to share this britishly brilliant interview with russell brand on my man's morning tv show of choice, msnbc's "morning joe." since my favorite moderately republican host, joe scarborough, wasn't part of this segment, thank bloody 'ell the english comedian was here to keep us laughing in style.

you can't see me, i'm camoflauged.
in an attempt to go through my closet and downsize, i instead found an old friend from college. together through jax beach parties, jobs, happy hours at potbelly's and more, my trusty camo skirt has apparently been safely stowed away for many years.
it started as a pair of wide leg capris from abercrombie & fitch. but since those went out of style a little more than a year later, i knocked off the legs soon after and added a safety pin to a fold in the middle, and voila.

the skirt was super easy to make and can be done with pretty much any pair of chinos or jeans.
this weekend i wore it with a black tank and some sneakers i studded. the diy outfit had me feeling like i was back in college again.
check back soon for a recap on the shoes themselves and how you can rock the stud craze.
meow: what's all the purring about cat shirts?
roar. meow. prrr. i'm really more of a dog person, although i don't have any pets.
last year, my sis came back from key west with a birthday gift for me they knew i wouldlove hate: a poor-fitting, tourist tee with an obnoxious photo of a cat. it was so "duval street." did i mention that i am not a feline fan?
well a few things have changed since then. including my feelings about the shirt.
imagine my surprise when i started seeing not only lions, tigers and kittens gracing the front of tie dye t-shirts a year later, but that same image from my own cat shirt pop up on my pinterest feed. once a joke, now a hot trend, cat shirts are all the rage.
i don't know why i kept mine, but now i'm glad i did. i'm not one to wear something just because it's "in style" - hence why i don't do round sunglasses, ombre hair or teardrop bib necklaces - but i do like to spice up my wardrobe with pieces that are a little "out there," if only for the reactions.
that doesn't change the face that the shirt i own is still ugly, so i put my own twist on it. a simple slice of the sleeves and that god-awful "key west, fl" script at the bottom, and now it's fun and frisky weekend wear.
today i'm sporting the new crop top for father's day dinner to remind my dad why he loves this crazy (non)cat lady.
want your own? you're in luck. urban outfitters has at least a dozen to choose from, plus a number of other animals, even narwhals.
or, don't want to spend $14-$32 on a silly shirt? visit enough goodwills and you're bound to find one traded in from 1994.

spring cleaning.
thanks to a new car, we decided to finally clean out the garage this weekend and put an end to what was the surely start of some serious hoarding. in the process, i got a little sidetracked, as usual, when i found the box that held my elementary school goods. behold this gem within my third grade journal:
apparently this was the start of my new shoe obsession. and hopefully learning how to spell too...

summer style sneak peek.
mondays are hard. tuesdays back at work after three-day weekends are sometimes even harder. add some gloomy weather and a lonely house while my husband is in miami, and it's pretty much a formula for a miserable day.
lucky for me, i had a sweet little surprise waiting for me at the door, thanks to bcbgmaxazria. and the ups guy was nice enough to shade it from getting soaked too.
want to know what's inside? here's a hint...i took a trend from the fall 2013 runway and am putting it into action early.

free bird.
a few weeks ago while browsing free people's new fp me social app and "hearting" all the items on my wish list, i spotted it. then, when i did a little friday evening shopping at bloomingdale's for a blazer soon after, i saw it in person and tried it on. i had to have it.
named the "printed voile peacemaker" and "peacemaker print shapeless dress," it is everything but shapeless with it's high-low skirt and flowing sleeves. the tunic has a bit of effortless elegance among all its bohemian beauty. only one problem, even with my loyallist card, it still wasn't in my price ranges since we're trying to save. i reluctantly put it back on the rack.
so today on memorial day, when we went to the mall to search for some extra john varvatos tags before a's upcoming trip to cali, this free bird was sure to fly through the free people section too.
there it was, marked down with an extra 40% off. add in my loyallist discount, and it was only $44. i'm a happy girl. the man will be too this weekend when i don't have to dig through my closet for something to wear.
want your own? get it from bloomingdale's since this print is gone from free people online. otherwise there are two other patterns for you to choose from. can't wait to post my first inspired pic to the fp me stylist section...stay tuned!

dress for the fest.
every once in a while i'm lucky enough that my day job and this little ol' hobby of mine get to collide. yesterday was one of those "once in a whiles," thanks to cityplace and sunfest.
that's because cityplace launched a "dress for the fest" contest, asking fans to share their sunfest style on facebook in honor of our own east coast music festival in downtown west palm beach. the winner scores a free pair of tickets and $250 worth of gift cards to cityplace to get all the fashion and beauty essentials. pretty good deal, if you ask me.
i'd enter on behalf if i could, but something tells me i'm a little too close to the source to win. for that reason, i'm asking that you, my readers, please enter on my behalf. if you choose to submit, please feel free to post your photos to the prêt-à-porter palm beach facebook page too so we can get a peek!

flavor of the week: green tea.
after the seemingly endless photos of fashion and ferris wheels across the @pretaporterpb instagram feed last weekend, there's a part of me that is wishing i was in cali right now rather than jupiter, fla. the other part of me is looking forward to the yoga-filled midtown peace, love & wellness music festival with my sister today, and the palm beaches' own version of coachella in a couple weeks...sunfest.
to get a head-start on both events, i filled up on green tea and a fresh, homemade juice of energy-boosting fruits and veggies this morning, while putting together another board inspired by the famous steve madden troopa boots and the current flavor of the week.

in my opinion the best part of this outfit (besides the boots, of course), is the leather harness belt from bcbg. i think it's time i add one of these to my closet...in time for sunfest, of course.
the next best is the bike. did you know that sunfest has a bike valet? it's sponsored by the west palm beach downtown development authority, and while i may be a bit biased, i think it's a pretty cool program that gets you close to the entrance, while avoiding gas, traffic and parking fees. plus you'll get even more of that florida sunshine on your way downtown. now i just need a pretty green beach cruiser like this...because my purple road bike and red-trimmed tri bike don't really match my outfit.
